How Honda Is Working To Get Its Groove Back

For decades, Honda successfully cultivated a hard-earned reputation for technological innovation and thoughtful engineering, but the Japanese automaker has seemingly grown content to let other automakers lead the way with new technologies in recent years. To this point, Honda has stubbornly resisted the engine-downsizing movement, direct injection, as well as more sophisticated gearboxes and hybrids, instead focusing on refining existing technologies and relying on its lighter weight vehicles to keep their models' performance metrics in the hunt.
Honda is hard at work on a hybrid evolution of the company's already trick Super

Honda recalling over 125,000 Goldwing motorcycles
Dec 06, 2011 - 3:38 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Etc., Recalls, Honda, Motorcycle

Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall for certain Goldwing motorcycles. Some bikes manufactured between 2001 and 2010 may have been built with a secondary master cylinder that could cause the rear brake to drag. We probably don't need to tell you that unwarranted, additional rear braking on a motorcycle is a bad thing, and NHTSA says that prolonged brake drag could cause a crash or a fire. A total of 126,000 models are part of the recall. At this... [Read More]

Honda plan calls for best fuel economy in every segment within three years
Dec 05, 2011 - 11:31 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Hybrid, Technology, Acura, Honda, Electric, Diesel

Regardless of what we may think of Honda's current styling direction or the excitement level of its latest models, we have the utmost respect for the automaker's engineering talent. So, when Honda sets itself a goal to achieve "top-of-industry fuel efficiency in every vehicle class within three years", it catches our attention.

Honda's so-called Earth Dreams Technology will encompass everything from gasoline and diesel engines to transmissions (including a CVT that will supposedly be both fun to drive and highly fuel efficient) and, of course, hybrids and fully electric vehicles.

Honda CEO disappointed by Crosstour sales, vows to make it successful
Dec 05, 2011 - 6:48 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Car Buying, Tokyo Motor Show, Crossover, Honda

In a roundtable with reporters at an event related to the Tokyo Motor Show, Tetsuo Iwamura, President and CEO of American Honda, told us that he's been surprised by the Crosstour crossover's slow sales:
"In the case of the Crosstour, I'm really disappointed because that's a nice car, [with] very beautiful styling, and it gives very good driving performance as well as packaging. But yet, we went a bit too far."

The five-door CUV has been struggling since it went on sale as a 2010 model. Through November, Honda has sold just 16,679 units this year - down nearly 36 percent from the 25,927 units tallied by this point in 2010. Honda had... [Read More]

Alabama strikes again: Second foreign autoworker has run-in with police
Dec 03, 2011 - 5:09 PM - by Honda Forum

Something tells us this isn't what the Alabama legislature had in mind when it created a new anti-illegal immigration law. A Honda worker on temporary assignment in Alabama was recently ticketed in Talladega County at a checkpoint for not having an Alabama driver's license. The individual provided both a Japanese passport and an international driver's license, but still caught flak from local authorities. According to reports, the Honda employee hasn't been authorized to speak about the charges and has asked not to be named. The individual is currently working with authorities to find a satisfactory solution to the situation.

This is the second foreign autoworker that has run into trouble over the Alabama illegal immigration legislation. Last month, a German manager with Mercedes-Benz was... [Read More]

Honda CEO takes responsibility for poor reception of redesigned Civic
Dec 02, 2011 - 5:16 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Coupe, Budget, Sedan, Etc., Japan, Honda, Design/Style

There are plenty of ways to know an automaker has made a misstep. Diminished sales and high inventory are typical markers of a lackluster model, as is a paucity of critical acclaim. All three factors are currently weighting on the 2012 Honda Civic. And while stopping short of an actual apology, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has reportedly stepped in to take responsibility for the model's reception. At a Tokyo Motor Show roundtable, Ito told media members that he takes full responsibility for... [Read More]

Honda is redoubling its Kei-class effort here at the Tokyo Motor Show, and the opening salvo of its new N Series is this square-rigged model, the appropriately named N Box. The N Box is actually launching in two versions, the standard model and the Custom, which includes showier head- and taillamp modules and a unique grille.

Honda N Concept 4 is production-ready cuteness
Dec 01, 2011 - 2:47 AM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Concept Cars, Budget, Japan, Tokyo Motor Show, Hatchback, Honda, Design/Style

Remember Honda's nifty EV-N concept from the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show? Honda has updated it for 2011 in the form of this, the N Concept 4. Like the EV-N, this showcar harkens back to Honda's original N series of minicars from the 1960s, typified by the N360.

The N Concept 4 was a surprise presentation from the automaker, and while Honda is not yet issuing further details about it,... [Read More]

Honda NA president re-recommits to Ridgeline
Nov 30, 2011 - 9:49 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Truck, Tokyo Motor Show, Honda

Despite consistently slow sales, Honda has executed a slight facelift for the Ridgeline's 2012 model year and begun offering a new low-cost Sport model (pictured) to enhance appeal. But the unibody four-door pickup's sales have been lackluster since its 2006 model year debut, leading to widespread speculation that the Ridgeline would disappear from showrooms altogether. The rumormill eventually built up enough steam that American Honda's Truck Planner, Sage Marie, was compelled to take the unusual step of addressing the gossip head-on last month with an official statement confirming the truck is "here to stay." However, that statement of support didn't shed any light on future developments for the model.

We're here in Japan for the ... [Read More]
